GTHS College and career fair was held on Monday, May 23, 2022. Ms. Hawkins was in charge of the organization of the amazing program we had.
We started our day with 3 keynote speakers.
1. Dr. Pamela Higgins Saulsberry
Dr. Pamela Higgins Saulsberry was born and raised in Denver, Colorado. She received her bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Colorado State University, her master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Denver, and her PhD from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Board Approved Clinical Supervisor, and a certified School Social Worker.
Presently, she is the inaugural Executive Director of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and formally the Director of the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the
University of Louisiana at Monroe. She also recently served as the Program Coordinator of and is a Professor in the Social Work Program.
Dr. Saulsberry is a national presenter and trainer, addressing topics such as Diversity, Relationship Violence, and Parenting Skill Development.
Dr. Saulsberry has two children and is the grandmother of three, soon to be four.
2. Ms. Brenda Grover
Brenda Grover is a graduate of Lake Providence Senior High School under the leadership of General Trass, Jr. She received her undergraduate degree at Mississippi Valley State University, Master of Science in Educational Leadership from ULM, and is currently pursuing her doctorate in developmental education.
Ms. Grover is the founder and CEO of BRBG Consulting where she provides educational
services to businesses, universities, and school districts. She currently teaches courses for Louisiana Tech University and Richwood High School and is the Science Director of SageGroup America. In 2021, Ms. Grover was selected as the High School Teacher of the Year for Ouachita Parish School District.
Her proudest productions are her two sons, Roderick and Byron, her dear niece Shameka Grover, her grandson Emmanuel, and the many students she has been blessed to impact over her years in education.
Ms. Grover believes that, “Each day is an opportunity to give more than you receive, receive more than you lose, and love more than you live.”
3.Jerry Bell
Mayor Jerry Bell is a native of Lake Providence He is a graduate of Lake Providence Senior High School. After high school, he attended Grambling State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting.
He has over thirty years of experience working in the business sector, non-profit organizations, and youth development. He is especially passionate about community development and youth achievement.
Although he knew the job was dangerous when he took it, his desire to make a difference compelled him to see the office of Mayor of the Town of Lake Providence.
After our great speakers, students went and met with the vendors, colleges and employers and asked questions about enrollment, job opportunities and also received some threats.
